When you factor in psychological and sexual violence, some studies have found the number to be one in four. While no teen is immune from dating violence, it doesn’t have to happen. But if you don’t know what’s healthy in a relationship, would you be able to recognize what’s unhealthy?
During February, follow loveisrespect, our project with Break the Cycle, for information about how to get involved during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (Teen DV Month).
During the month of February, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Months provides an opportunity for prevention and healing for victims According to the Domestic Violence Awareness Project, approximately 1.5 million high school students in the United States experience physical abuse from a dating partner.
The other forms of victimization experienced by teen dating violence victims frequently did not come at the hands of dating partners.
More than half of victims reported a history of some form of child abuse, with 40 percent of victims physically abused by a caregiver, and nearly 70 percent having witnessed violence in their families.
Being a teen isn’t an easy experience, and navigating relationships as a teen definitely isn’t an easy experience.
